Some say Remy got her love for the marine world
from her grandfather. She is from Guadalajara, Mexico, where she grew
up with a family of mixed nationalities. During her undergraduate studies at
the University of the Americas Puebla, she spent a semester abroad in
Australia where she reinforced her desire to study marine biology. She
completed her BS in Biology in 2011 and took a year off to teach diverse
science subjects at the Tec de Monterrey school.
Remy joined Dr. Berumen’s
Reef Ecology Lab as a Master’s student in 2013 and worked on population
genetics, larval dispersal, and invertebrate spawning behavior, focusing on creatures such as anemones and zoanthids. She graduated in December 2014 and has accepted a PhD position at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
