Alison is a marine scientist with more than 20 years’ experience ensuring that conservation and management are based on the best available science.  Her areas of expertise include designing networks of marine protected areas (MPAs) to benefit both people and nature, coral reef fish ecology and monitoring. 

Alison has provided scientific advice and leadership for designing MPAs in 20 countries in the Pacific Islands, Southeast Asia, West Indian Ocean, Latin America and the Caribbean. She has also provided training in MPA network design for field practitioners from more than 70 countries worldwide.

Alison has also conducted coral reef surveys and long term monitoring in Australia, American Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Mozambique and the Carribbean.

Dr. Green received her doctoral degree in Marine Biology from James Cook University of North Queensland, and earned her Bachelor‘s degree in Zoology (with First Class Honours) at the University of Queensland in Australia. During her PhD, Alison was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and a Lizard Island Doctoral Fellowship to study coral reef fish ecology on the Great Barrier and in the Caribbean.

Alison is currently a Research Scientist with Red Sea Research Center at KAUST, where her research interests include designing MPA networks, coral reef fish ecology and monitoring in the Red Sea.
