Areen is originally from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She completed her Bachelors of Science degree in Marine Biology at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island in 2017. Areen then earned a Masters of Research degree in Environmental Management from the University of Bolton, UK in 2019 before completing a Master of Science degree in Marine Science with the Reef Ecology Lab at KAUST in 2022.

Areen now works at the Reef Ecology Lab as a Research Specialist with a focus on megaherbivore ecology in the Red Sea.
