Keith did his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering in Pennsylvania, USA. He came to KAUST hoping to study Ocean Engineering in the Marine Science department. Although this program was cancelled just prior to his arrival, Keith stuck out "all those biology classes", learned to dive, and worked with the Coral Reef Ecology Lab. He applied his mechanical and engineering skills to the development of new technologies for studying the movements of whale sharks.
