Mehreen joined Dr. Berumen’s lab in fall 2011. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in genetics from Rutgers University in the United States. She is interested in population genetics and worked together with PhD student Gerrit Nanninga on the genetic connectivity of the clownfish Amphiprion bicinctus. She also worked on barcoding coral recruits and developing microsatellite markers for deep sea corals.​
