Research Interests

Sam grew up in West Australia where he completed his Bachelor degree in Coastal and Marine Science at Curtin University. Upon finishing, Sam completed an honours year, where he studied hybridising reef fish at Cocos and Christmas Islands in the Indian Ocean. He is currently a research intern at KAUST, where he is studying the ecological conditions that affect colour variation in a small predatory reef fish. Sam is also investigating the Crown of Thorns Starfish, to determine if genetics can be used to trace the source of destructive outbreak populations on the Great Barrier Reef. Sam’s main interests are fish ecology, fisheries, conservation and science communication.
